Find Your Hustle

I spent Saturday morning reffing two soccer games, one for my buddy's son, who is pictured here with just a fun end-of-game picture. If you saw the game, you would see that he was nowhere near getting even a foul, let alone a yellow card, but it certainly made for a fun picture. Now, after these games, I walked away with a nice bit of cash in my pocket, but anyone who knows me, knows I don't need the extra, so why? The same can be said for the oil change and tire rotations I did on my vehicles this weekend. See I can afford to pay someone to do these things, so why do them?
It's about finding your hustle! Find the things you enjoy doing and can make some extra money (or save) to not only achieve your goals but also set yourself up for something more. Both of these activities I enjoy doing and one saves me time and money, while the other helps me continue to influence the next generation, while also providing some extra income to pay off my mortgage and/or buy some things we want.
For years people have questioned me about doing my oil changes, after all, you can pull up to just about anywhere and get it done for less than $50 in about 20 minutes. The truth is, I learned how to do this myself as a kid and I am to the point where it takes me probably 10-15 minutes to complete. But beyond my time, I know that my car is being taken care of right, with the proper oil amount, and the proper way of taking care of things. When I do the tire rotation, the same holds, although this does take me a bit longer to do, I finish with extra clean wheels and the torque just right. As a bonus, I'm able to help out others. If push came to shove I could probably do this in my driveway all day as a side hustle if I needed to. For now, I'm just happy to take care of my vehicles properly and ensure that they can run forever.
What is your hustle and what are you missing out on? I ref because it allows me to stay connected to sports, be around something that I have grown to enjoy as watched my kids grow up playing. Now, it is just run to watch the next generation of sports players rise. If you are paying off debt, or just looking for a little extra to do, look at what you love and what you are good at and see what you can do on the side. Some ideas to consider.
1) Ref just like me - Anywhere you live there is always a need
2) Some extra bookkeeping work or accounting if you are good with numbers
3) Coaching gigs that are around your area could be career or sports-related, everyone needs a coach
4) Crafts selling or furniture refinishing
5) Light mechanic work
6) Yard work
7) Lawn cutting
There are 7, but the list has to be specific to you and what you want to do. Keep after it, keep hustling, get that debt paid off, and find work you love. It is not always about overtime at your current job to pull in extra, it could just be leaning into the things you are already good at and could expand.
