If I were to ask you to reflect for a bit this morning on how much you have learned so far in your life, what do you think you would come up with? Seriously, stop and think for a minute about how much you have learned, and be specific. For me, I can rattle off some deep specifics like C++ programming, changing a radiator in a VW Jetta and Jeep Wrangler, tiling bathrooms, and on I could go for quite a while.
Now that you have that context, how many of those things did you initially think were going to be too hard or too difficult for you to do?
Then, how many things have you not learned because you convinced yourself that it was too hard or not something "within your wheelhouse."
Some of those things that we choose not to learn are because we know our own limitations. Last year, I had a deck built off the house. Could I have learned to do this? Probably, but the time and effort to build it the way I wanted it done would have taken much longer. The guys that did build it did it faster and did a very nice job on top of that.
A maple tree has maple syrup easily running through itself all the time, but we will never get to enjoy that delicious syrup unless we tap into it. We are just like that maple tree. We have built-in capabilities and capacity, yet much of it goes untapped because we are just not willing to take the steps to unlock it.
I've been contemplating building my own course for months now. Only recently did I finally put it out there, set up a quick framework, and start advertising it. I needed to put it out there to force me to spend time creating it. I know I have the knowledge and the teaching capability, but I continuously told myself, that this has already been done, and I'm not going to take over what some other popular people have already built.
You have the potential in yourself to do amazing things. You are what God made you to be and he did not make you to be nothing. He created you with very specific ideas in mind. There is a lot of untapped potential in people and sometimes you just need the right push to unlock it.
What is your potential? Write one thing down now that you are going to unlock and get started on to unlock your potential.
While the picture was an old Christmas card photo, it does show the truth that we all have a superhero inside of us, just a matter of letting it out.
