Start Looking in the Mirror

Maybe I've been thinking about the news and world events too much. I was listening to a podcast by Adam Grant yesterday and he stated an interesting fact on video games that goes against everything you have heard in the media. I do not recall the specific details, but essentially it provided some positive outcomes for kids who play video games, something about building perseverance. That is quite the opposite of what the media plays out, talking about how it is a cause behind the gun violence in America today. I'm not here to debate that, but I'm here to talk through where the issue is, it is the one staring back at you, or the person that committed the act. It starts with you.

If you are going to make a change, it all starts with you. It is not inflation, it is not credit cards, it is not mortgage rates, it is not capitalism, and on and on I could go. It all starts with you. You have to decide to make the change and take it.

Last year I preached a message about Moses. Everyone knows the story of Moses and the burning bush. The part that I took away from that story was that Moses had to take a step towards the bush. God didn't grab him and put him in front of the bush, he saw it and stepped towards it. Moses had to make a decision.

Right now you have to make a decision. There is something that you have wanted to do or something you have wanted to change. I'm here to tell you today, that it is time to make the change, it is time to start taking some steps. Here are some areas to make a change and some options for help.

1) Finances: Are you tired of not knowing where your hard-earned money is going? Are you not ready to retire? Or not sure when you will be able to? Or what do you need to do to get ready? That is where I come in and where I help people to get under control. Good news I'm leading 2 Financial Peace University classes, one starting tomorrow (in-person) and another starting Feb 1st. 2) Health: Are you ready to take control here? What are you going to do and what are you going to commit to? I've been an avid gym rat (for lack of a better term) for years now. For the last 3 years, I have followed some great programming, link below, that keeps me motivated. Before that, I ran regularly, but I also followed some programming and prepared for races. Set yourself a goal and get started towards it today, don't wait till the next day or next week, start now and stop making excuses.

Workout: Garage Gym Athlete - I get nothing for promoting this, just appreciate this team and the workouts that challenge me every week.

3) Family Time: This is important, are you where you want to be? Do you desire more time, less time, better time? Let's make some changes here. Some ideas, lock out the phone time and commit to putting it down or on the charger when you get home. Make the time you have with your family quality time and start now. Many have off today, so it is a great day to prioritize this.

4) Spiritual: This to me is the most important, even though I put it last. What are you going to do better in this year? Some thoughts here might be to commit to reading a chapter of your Bible today. Maybe memorizing 1 verse a month or maybe just commit to making it to every church service. Again, do something important to you.

Need an app: I used this one for years. Reading Plan

Those are just a couple of areas to think about and some places where you can take ownership. Remember, you are responsible and you have control, it is not your upbringing or the economy or anything else that is stopping you, it is up to you, so make some changes and go.
